ANDRA Grand Final Preview: Brodie Zappia
We catch up with Junior Dragster racer Brodie Zappia before he heads to Mildura for the final round of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series. Brodie currently sits on maximum points heading into final round after winning the last round of the championship at the Perth Motorplex.
What’s been the highlight of your Summit Sportsman series campaign this season?
My highlight of the SRESS season so far would have to be winning the 50th Annual Westernationals. I had never imagined that would be how the event ended, but I guess luck fell my way, and all the practice has paid off.
How do you prepare for this important event? Any changes to the car?
The only changes to the car I've made is tightening the drive belt so I can properly stage, without "rowing" it into stage, and I'll probably make some jetting changes once I get there, to compensate for the weather. Other than that, everything else is the same.
What do you think is the biggest challenge you will face at Mildura?
My biggest challenge will be trying to fend off the amount of cars there. The biggest field of cars I've raced against all season was 16, so having 23 cars, making it 5 rounds of racing, will be a good challenge.
Who to you is your biggest threat for the championship?
The three other racers maxed out on 300 points. Jake Berias - the defending champion, Sarah Donelly, and Tommy Turic. It'll definitely be a good battle, and it's tight between the four of us.
Massive thanks to Dad and Mike Naylor for driving the bus and trailer across, Mum and Adam Gannaway for flying over with me, Scruffy, Aaron Deery, Mike Sprlyan, WADRA for the support, and every one of my sponsors and supporters for helping make this extended 19/20/21 season what it has been.
